Build a Spine That Moves Well, Strengthens Well, and Lasts a Lifetime
A two-day functional strength and spinal health certification for teachers, movement professionals and dedicated practitioners.
Over two immersive days with Sumit Manav, you’ll learn how the spine is designed to move, how to build the functional strength that protects it for decades, and how to translate that understanding into safe, intelligent, confident teaching.
The transformation: walk in unsure of how to work with backs. Walk out able to read a spine in the room, sequence for strength and safety, and help people stand taller, move freer and trust their own bodies again.
Led by Sumit Manav — Founder & Master Teacher · E-RYT 500 · BKS Iyengar–certified · over 2 of teaching across the UK and internationally.

A Different Kind of Spine Training
Most of us were taught to protect the spine — to keep it still, to be careful, to fear the wrong movement. The Resilient Spine teaches the opposite truth: a spine becomes strong by moving well, and safe by being trained intelligently.
This is a 2-day functional strength and spinal health certification that blends classical yoga wisdom with modern movement science. Across two days you’ll move through spinal anatomy and biomechanics, posture and alignment, mobility and stability, breath and nervous-system regulation, and the functional strength work that makes the whole system resilient — then learn how to teach all of it with clarity and care.
Who it’s for: practising yoga teachers, wellness and movement professionals, and committed practitioners (roughly ages 30–60) who want a deeper, more honest relationship with the spine.
Why it matters now: we sit more, move less, and carry more tension than any generation before us. Back discomfort, stiff hips, rounded posture and a tired nervous system have quietly become the backdrop of modern life. The spine sits at the centre of all of it — physically, energetically and emotionally.
How it works: nothing here is dry anatomy on one side and abstract philosophy on the other. Everything is integrated and embodied — you’ll feel what you learn, and use it the moment you leave the room.
What You'll Carry Out the Door
A working certification — not a weekend of notes you never open again. By the end of two days, you will have:

Is This You?
You do not need to be a teacher to attend — only a healthy curiosity about the body and a willingness to learn through movement.
— Yoga teachers
Move beyond 200-hour anatomy and finally feel confident sequencing for backs, posture and strength.
— Dedicated practitioners
Build a deeper, embodied understanding of how your own spine works — and keep it strong for life.
— People improving posture & mobility
Whether you sit at a desk all day, carry old injuries, or simply want to age with more freedom.
— Wellness & movement professionals
Physiotherapists, trainers, Pilates and movement coaches, bodyworkers bridging clinical science and yogic wisdom.
Why The Resilient Spine Stands Apart
- A senior teacher, not a syllabus A refined, road-tested method — the thinking of an experienced teacher, not a generic curriculum.
- Philosophy & anatomy, together No false choice between ``spiritual`` and ``scientific`` — each one makes the other clearer.
- Strength with mindful awareness Intelligent loading, breath and attention working together — power that's also stable and sustainable.
- Healing, prevention & performance The same principles meet a spine wherever it is — and move it forward safely.
- Conditioning, not just stretching Mobility without strength is fragility. Build a spine that's both supple and strong.
- Tradition meets modern movement Ancient wisdom on breath, posture and energy, made immediately, practically useful.
Your spine carries you through every day of your life. It's time to understand it.
Spend two days learning how the spine truly moves, strengthens and heals — and how to share that knowledge with confidence.

The spine is the story of how you live.
Sit with someone for a moment and you can read their life in their spine — the desk years, the worry, the confidence, the freedom or the holding-on. The spine is the central column we organise everything else around.
Posture
Shapes how we breathe, how we feel, and how the world responds to us.
Energy & nervous system
Both run along the spine — a settled spine so often means a settled mind.
Movement quality
Everything from walking to lifting a child depends on a spine that moves and supports at once.
Ageing well
A cared-for spine is one of the strongest predictors of staying mobile, independent and pain-free.
To care for the spine intelligently is to invest in pain prevention, in confidence, and in the simple daily quality of life that lets a person move through their days with ease. This course is, in the end, about helping you — and the people you teach — keep standing tall, moving freely, and feeling at home in your own body.
Two days. One method. A lifetime of stronger, freer movement.
Places are kept deliberately small so every participant gets real attention. If you’ve been waiting for the right time to go deeper with the spine, this is it.
Meet Sumit Manav
Sumit Manav is the founder of Manav Yoga and a senior teacher whose work bridges two worlds too often kept apart: the depth of classical yoga, and the precision of modern movement science.
He has spent 2 decades teaching across the Inda, UAE, UK and internationally — guiding students, training teachers, and working with people of every age and ability to move better, stand taller and live with less pain. His teaching is known for being grounded and warm: serious about the body, generous with the person.
What sets Sumit apart is integration. He treats anatomy and philosophy as partners, not rivals — pairing breath, awareness and traditional wisdom with practical biomechanics and functional strength. When you train with Sumit, you’re not memorising poses. You’re learning to understand the body, and to teach from that understanding with confidence and care.

Everything You Need to Know
All details below are easy to edit for each intake.

Everything You Want to Know Before You Book
1 Do I need to be a yoga teacher to join?
No. The course is valuable for teachers and for dedicated practitioners and movement professionals. Teachers gain sequencing and methodology tools; everyone gains a deep, embodied understanding of the spine they can use for life.
2 Is this suitable if I have back pain or a history of injury?
For most people, yes — this is exactly the kind of intelligent, gentle-first approach that helps. The course is educational rather than a personal treatment programme, though. If you have a significant or acute condition, please check with your healthcare professional first and let us know in advance so we can guide you safely on the day.
3 Will I receive a certificate?
Yes — a certificate of completion is awarded on full attendance of both days. [Details of any CPD or continuing-education recognition will be confirmed at booking.]
4 Is this practical or theory-based?
Both, fully integrated. You won’t sit through dry anatomy on one side and abstract philosophy on the other — you’ll feel what you learn. Expect movement, practice, teaching application and embodied learning throughout, with the theory woven in.
5 Can complete beginners join?
Beginners with genuine curiosity are welcome. A little movement experience helps you get the most from the two days, but it isn’t essential. Tell us when you book and we’ll make sure you’re well supported.
6 Will this help me teach better spine-focused classes?
That’s a core aim. You’ll learn to sequence, cue, observe and adapt for spinal health and functional strength — and leave with the confidence that comes from understanding the why behind everything you teach.
7 How big are the groups?
Deliberately small. Spine-focused work depends on personal attention and hands-on observation, so places are limited to keep the experience intimate and genuinely useful.
8 What if I'm not very flexible or strong?
This course will meet you exactly where you are — flexibility is not a prerequisite. Learning to build strength and mobility intelligently is precisely the point.
